Planning

Building a new home begins long before the foundation is poured. Listed here are some important tips and suggestions to help you plan that new dream home:

 1. Plan your Budget

Begin to think about how much you can afford to spend and how much building your new home is likely to cost (remember to consider well and septic or water and sewer hookups if needed). Chances are you will need a construction loan and a mortgage. It’s not too early to find out what size loan you qualify for. This will help us modify your building plans to meet your budget.

2. Choosing a Location

Whether you are building your home in a suburban development or site in the country, you will almost always need to choose the land before you select floor plans or other details. You will need to investigate factors such as soil condition, drainage, zoning and building codes in the region. Location is one of the most important considerations when shopping for a new home. Weigh the pros and cons of living in the city, the suburbs, or the country. Compare locations as carefully as you compare houses.

3. Make a List

Write down a list of things that you like and dislike about your current home. This will help you determine exact things that accommodate you and things that don’t.

4. Discuss Floor Plans With Us

Bring in advertisements, rough sketches, anything you have that can help us better understand your preferences. We want you to enjoy a plan that will meet your needs for many years to come.

5. Accommodating Your Family

If you have special needs, younger children, or older adults visiting be sure to include them  in your design process. Little things like door levers instead of knobs, and handicap accessible showers can make a home much more livable.
